Tech Titan 2011 Awards Honor Entrepreneurship
Dallas, Texas – The Metroplex Technology Business Council (MTBC) presented the 2011 Tech Titans awards on August 26, 2011 at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas. Over 900 guests from the technology community attended. The Tech Titan awards recognize outstanding technology companies and individuals in the North Texas region that have made significant contributions to the technology community.
TECH Fort Worth, a nonprofit business incubator and partner of the North Texas RCIC received the 2011 Technology Advocate Tech Titan. Also nominated for the award was North Texas Regional Center Innovation Center (NTXRCIC) partner organizations Lone Star Angels and Texas Manufacturing Assistance Center (TMAC). In 2010, the NTXRCIC accepted the Technology Advocate Tech Titan for advancing technology in the North Texas region.
Three North Texas RCIC client companies were honored as finalists for the Emerging Company Horizon award; ZS Pharma, Encore Vision and Resonant Sensors. Winner of the Emerging Company Horizon Tech Titan was Encore Vision. The company develops products and procedures for the treatment and prevention of presbyopia, directed at the cause. William (Bill) Burns is President and Chief Executive Officer accepted the award on behalf of his company.
Other NTXRCIC client companies that were finalists for awards were; Syndiant CEO Mark Harward for Emerging Company CEO and Chipotle Business Group, CTO, Derrick Charbonnet for Technology Innovators Award . NTXRCIC university partners UT Dallas and UT Arlington were also nominated for their work in applied research and entrepreneurship. In addition to nominated companies, NTXRCIC ETF client company, Net.Orange was recognized as one of the Fast Tech 35 (fastest-growing companies in North Texas). Net.Orange received $1.9 million in ETF funding in May 2009.
Last year, the Tech Titans committee established a new award – Hall of Fame Award. Bill Sproull, CEO and President of the MTBC and Richardson Chamber of Commerce, was honored as the first awardee in 2010. This year’s winner was Jon Bayless, General Partner, Sevin Rosen Funds. He was honored for his career contributions and leadership within the technology community. More than a dozen start-up ventures and corporations have excelled under his leadership, guidance and financial investment.
