Vital Art and Science Incorporated, based in Richardson, is an early stage medical startup company that hopes to provide home-based devices to monitor disease progression for those afflicted with degenerative eye diseases.
Such diseases include diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration and glaucoma. In the past decade, effective therapies have been developed for many degenerative eye diseases, but according to VAS executives, timely treatment is critical.

The VAS eyeShape device is a personal gadget that patients can use to monitor their own condition. According to VAS, initial prototype devices have been developed and are ready for initial human trials to determine.

myVisionTrack™ -- Visual Function Testing System:

  • Vital Art and Science (VAS), in conjunction with research scientists and retinal physicians, has developed a home use, low-cost, simple-to-use, safe, and accurate solution for visual function monitoring - myVisionTrack™.
  • By using proprietary VAS software and patent pending shape discrimination tests implemented on a handheld electronic platform, myVisionTrack™ allows patients to quickly and accurately test their own visual function.
  • Results are stored, automatically compared with prior test results, and may be sent to a physician's office or central service if a statistically significant change has occurred.
  • Patients can self-monitor their condition at home. They have peace of mind and take more responsibility in monitoring and managing their disease.

Applications for myVisionTrack™:

Clinical Trials --

  • Detailed profile of patient response to treatment
  • More data collected during trials to substantiate claims
  • Reduce the cost of trials

During Treatment --

  • Frequent patient monitoring to optimize treatment
  • Enhance and monitor patient compliance

Ongoing Monitoring --

  • High risk patients - early detection of disease change when treatments are the most effective

Valuable Marketing Tool --

  • Adds value to the physician's practice
  • Promotional tool for Pharmaceutical companies

Product Status:
The initial version of myVisionTrack™ is fully developed and validated through a first "proof of concept" Clinical Study funded by the National Eye Institute.
Formal Clinical Studies to further validate myVisionTrack™ are currently underway in the US and Europe. The results from these Studies will be used to gain regulatory approval and the first commercial versions are expected to be available by mid-2012.

Product Roadmap:
VAS is continuing to add features to the myVisionTrack™, and is exploring additional home diagnostics which would enable patients to monitor their chronic disease conditions easily and effectively at home.
